French Market

One of the suburbs adjacent to mine has a French Market on Sunday mornings.  I love farmer's markets and similar types of outdoor markets, so I knew I had to check it out.  Today was the first day of the season, and it was fabulous!  They had veggies, bread, pickles, honey, meats, and crafts including ceramics and textiles.  Behold my bounty:

I got strawberries (southern Illinois), snap peas (local), green beans (florida), fingerling potatoes (local), and yellow onions (local).  My total was $14, which I think is a great price for supporting local agriculture.

What will I do with my bounty?  Well, my girl is out of town right now, and I think I'm going to make an awesome welcome home dinner for when she returns.  I'll make sauteed chicken breast, lightly steamed snap peas and green beans, and cheesy sour cream potatoes (recipe is the first post in this blog--usually I use red potatoes, but the fingerlings will work just as well).  For dessert, I'm thinking fresh strawberries (sliced and macerated) over vanilla ice cream.

My next market outing will be Wednesday afternoon for the opening day of the major farmers market for this area.  Look for a delicious post coming soon!
