Lately it seems that my Saturday mornings have developed a nice pattern. I usually wake up by 630a--sure, I'd love to sleep in, but I find myself naturally awake at that hour, so I roll with it. M doesn't believe in the existence of wake-up times before about 8am and the dog agrees, so they sleep on. I make myself breakfast and take it and my laptop to the basement, where I watch news and hang out with kittens (aka the fully grown fatcats).
This morning's breakfast is a nostalgic treat: white toast with Cheez Whiz. Last night I stopped to get some bread at the grocery store on my way home, and I decided that I wanted some Cheez Whiz. I know most people (ahem, M) consider it to be mildly cheese-flavoured toxic waste, but I grew up eating it. It's what we ate most frequently while visiting my mother's family in Quebec, and so Cheez Whiz on white toast brings me back to cool mornings on the St. Lawrence river, swaying on the swing and reading in my pajamas while enjoying breakfast. The setting was gorgeous and the days were delightfully lazy and shapeless.
So, I splurged and got a jar of imitation cheez product. And yes, it's a splurge. Do you know how expensive Cheez Whiz is? It's $5.19. Apparently technology is expensive? Anyway, once I shoved my eyeballs back in my head, I decided it was worth it for a bit of happy memories. We all know that I'm a notorious grocery budget schemer!
The rest of my weekend is looking good as well. I have a rare bit of daytime babysitting, but it means this evening I can hang around the house. I also have a phone interview and in-person interview for a new temp sitting gig, and knitting/crochet group tomorrow! That group is seriously a sanity-saver, and I don't know what I'd do without it. Then Monday brings derby practise, back at our regular rink but with a new floor! All in all, the next few days are looking pretty awesome.
