Blog-A-Long: First Finished Objects

Ten days in, and I've got two FOs (finished objects, for you non-fibery folks) to show off!

First, the Claudia Scarf in a bright, grass green:
It's about 18 inches wide and 72 inches long, made from two skeins of Araucania Nature Wool in colour 52.  The original pattern called for sock weight yarn to make a thinner scarf, but I wanted something more akin to a wrap.  That way it works as a wrap/shawl in the fall, and then a thick, luxurious scarf in the winter.  As an aside, blocking this scarf has really shown me that I need some blocking wires.  I'm tired of less-than-straight blocking lines!
Next (and made first, actually), the Soft Serve cardigan:

I made it in my true bust size, in purple Patons Classic Wool.  It fits perfectly, so I decided not to block it.  That makes for tighter lace and a bit less drape, but I like how it fits me, and it'll be a good fall sweater.  It doesn't have any type of closure--the pattern calls for a tie closure, but I have lots of lovely vintage pins, and this sweater is perfect for them.

So, the Claudia Scarf is crossed off the sidebar list--but the Soft Serve is still on there.  That's because I plan to make at least one more.  And that one, I'm going to make in the next size down from my true bust size, and then block it to fit.  That will make for a more open lace with lots of drape.

Next up is the Diamonds Shawl in lilac Helen's Lace!

  2. The sweater and scarf look fabulous. The scarf would make a pretty wrap for the warmer months, but in winter I want something solid and warm. Love the bright green. The blocking looks fine to me. Did you just pin it?
