Earlier this week, M and I had been pretty bummed about not having plans for the 4th. My parents always have a big bash, which I haven't attended since moving away, but we've usually managed to get a BBQ invite or something. This year, nada. But then, a friend of M's asked about our plans, and M invited her here for a little BBQ. I put an invite on facebook and also on my yarn group boards, and soon we had a party in the works! It's not going to be huge, but I am very much looking forward to it.
So far, the menu is as follows:
- Burgers on the grill with all the trimmings, including pesto mayo with fresh basil
- Corn on the cob (probably not on the grill--our grill is tiny)
- Homemade potato salad (just a basic recipe)
- Ramen noodle salad (which I had never heard of before moving out here, but it's actually really delicious)
- Homemade cherry pie (from actual cherries, not from a can) with optional whipped cream
- Veggies and dill dip (fresh dill!)
Guests are bringing a covered dish (apparently calling it that is a Southern thing?), and in the case of my friends, yarn and projects.
I hope that you've had a good 4th! I remember the shindig that my parents would have, but we haven't done that in some time. This year, we're taking it easy, and just relaxing at home.
